Hiawatha High Voltage Transmission Line Project Updates
The Xcel Hiawatha project is a proposal to build two substations and a high voltage transmission line in South Minneapolis. For detailed information on the project and the process, visit the Xcel Energy and the Midtown Greenway Coalition websites.
Process Updates:
- The next opportunity to be involved is a prehearing conference of an administrative law judge. THis will be held August 4,2009 at 9:30 am in the Large Hearing Room of the Public Utilities Commission, 121 Seventh Place East in Saint Paul.
- The Advisory Task Force, made up of a variety of the political and citizen organizations involved, had its first meeting on Wednesday July 15. The next meeting will be Wednesday August 5, 2009. Held at the Midtown Global Market from 6 to 9:30 pm, these are open for viewing to the public although participation in the discussions is limited to members of the ATF.
- Public comments WERE being accepted until July 10, online at http://energyfacilities.puc.state.mn.us/Docket.html?Id=19981 or by email or letter to Bill Storm (bill.storm@state.mn.us OR William Cole Storm, MDOC, 85 7th Place East, Suite 500, St. Paul MN 55101).
- On June 18, 2009 a public scoping meeting was held at the Midtown Global Market regarding the proposed Xcel Hiawatha project. At the meeting, Bill Storm from the Department of Energy Security and RaeLynn Asah from Xcel Energy spoke about the reasons for the project and the process to get it approved, and then opened the floor to public comments.
